The user releases a large amount of chakra then quickly haults it. The Genjutsu is usualy dispelled after that, depending on how strong the skill is.

I also get my info from Leafninja, for your information. I use the 'Kai' all the time.

1. The 'Kai' handsighn can only Dispell a Genjutsu not reverse it back towards the user.

2. Also, Ren couldn't relized it was a Genjutsu that quickly, no matter what RANK you are. He can't tell what his opponent was going to do next or read his opponents mind. What Ren just did was Metagaming.
